Originally titled Dialogue on the Tides it was changed to simply Dialogue. Published in 1632 it was placed on the Index of Forbidden Books and not removed until 1835. Based on the books contents Galileo was threatened with the instruments of torture and condemned to house arrest until he died in 1642. Galileo was pardoned by the Roman Catholic Church in 1992, 350 years after his death.

Blue is the light level and red the temperature. Time scale is 100 minutes ending at 1011, maximum at 0929, start time just after first contact at 0831.
Note the time lag for the drop in temperature (range 5-6 C).
Note the more rapid rise in light intensity than drop.
Cloud cover remained very uniform throughout.
