Ian is the T3 Europe STEM lead, an International Professional Development provider and author. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics as well as being passionate about Europe and physics teaching.
He is a former assessor for the UK Science Council and served four years on the government Advisory Panel for Science in Society managed by the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council.
From 2001-2003 he served as chair of the Association for Science Education, was a council member for 5 years and sat on a region committee for 20 years. ASE is an international association of science teachers and Europe's largest subject teaching organisation. Ian has won national awards for teaching physics and was an Advanced level physics examinations scrutineer for the former Qualification and Curriculum Authority.
He is a founder member of the UK Science Learning Centre network and developed many innovative programmes for professional development in physics. He led a pan-European group of science teachers for four years tackling issues of commonality across countries in the areas of classroom teaching resources and methods.
Rides motorbikes, drives a classic car (1964 MGB, bought in 1976) has flown hang gliders and travelled extensively through the Near East. Ian speaks French and Turkish and was an expert consultant to the Istanbul Court on physics retake examinations.
